FAQ's

Type of Shooting:
The style of our sessions is relaxed, and that's the way we want you to be. Both children and adults alike respond much better if they are allowed to be themselves. While we do take formal poses, candid, traditional, and photojournalistic types we love to capture the honesty of real life and your personality. We try to use as little posing as possible and we try hard to never take those “say cheese” kind of photos. Our goal is to capture as much personality as possible. We want to create lasting photo's that will be treasured by you and your family throughout the years.

Scheduling:
All portrait sessions are by appointment only. Please schedule your time-sensitive sessions, such as holiday greeting cards, maternity and baby's first year, as early as your schedule allows to reserve your desired session date.

If you have definite ideas of what types of images you want from your session, please share them while scheduling so that I can know what to focus on during your session, while I strive to create the images you desire.Upon arrival, I will do my best to find an area that will provide the best lighting for your session.

Clothing:
Simple clothing in subtle, solid colors is recommended to avoid detracting from the faces. Avoid very bright colors and "busy" patterned fabrics.

For group portraits, I recommend that everyone wear coordinating clothing in complementary colors. Some families like to dress in matching colors, such as khaki pants with denim or white shirts or blue jeans with white shirts, but this is not necessary as long as your clothing coordinates.

If you need suggestions for clothing, I am more than happy to help you. For children's portraits, you are welcome to choose from a small selection of children's clothing that I have on hand.

Camera and Equipment:
We use a Nikon equipment. We use a portable backdrop system with a variety of backdrops, and lighting system.

Type of Lighting:
The beauty of natural light is how we prefer to work, although we realize that a little help is sometimes needed. We work very hard to perfect our methods and style both with the camera and with the PC, and are able to accommodate and adjust many lighting situations.

Can I keep all of my negatives or files?
We work with all digital high resolution formats, we do not have any negatives.  Your files will be saved and kept indefinitely for any future photo's you may need.

Photographs:
All portraits are taken in digital color and can be converted to black and white or one of many other tones. Our studio is an in-home business and we can shoot indoors or outdoors or both for any private session.  Many choose to have pictures made outdoors on location.  Some of the locations have included the Shenandoah Valley,  Northern VA areas West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina those areas that are more than 50 miles from our home studio will include a traveling fee. You may also have us come directly to your home.  In-home visits work really well for newborns and their recovering moms.
